The Sam Houston Zephyr in the configuration this Eagle Imports set depicts, began service on January 13, 1945 and remained as such well into the mid-1950'S.
As train #4, the Sam ran in the morning Houston to Dallas, thence to Fort Worth. The afternoon schedule saw this route reversed as train #3.

Originally assigned to Silver Streak Zephyr April, 1940. Assigned to Sam Houston Zephyr January, 1945. Entered CB&Q pool service in early 1960's. At merger, became BN 900, thence Amtrak 1000.

Originally assigned to the AkSarBen Zephyr in 1940. The "Jim Crow" partition and extra bathroom were installed in CB&Q shops prio to being assigned to Sam Houston Zephyr January, 1945. Entered CB&Q pool service in early 1960's. At merger, became BN 5290. Not on Amtrak roster. Presently at the Atchison Railroad Museum - Atchison, Kansas.
